Pistons Sign Former Suns Center
PHOENIX -- The Detroit Pistons are signing former Phoenix Suns big man Chimezie Metu.
From the team's official press release:
"Metu, 6-9, 225, is a five-year NBA veteran and has appeared in 246 career games (31 starts) for San Antonio, Sacramento and Phoenix. The No. 49 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Metu holds career averages of 5.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.4 blocks in 12.8 minutes per game. Metu appeared in 37 games (five starts) for the Phoenix Suns this season and averaged 5.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 12.1 minutes.
"A native of Los Angeles, CA, Metu played collegiately at the University of Southern California from 2015-18 where he was named First-Team All-Pac-12 in 2018 and Second-Team All-Pac 12 and Most Improved Player in 2017."
Metu first entered the league in 2018 with the San Antonio Spurs as a second-round pick, later spending time with the Sacramento Kings before landing with the Suns in free agency this past offseason.
He was eventually traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team deal that netted the Suns Royce O'Neale at the NBA trade deadline. Metu was soon waived after.
He played in 37 games for Phoenix, which included a notable 23 point/19 rebound effort on Christmas Day.
