Eric Gordon Wants Bigger Role With Suns
PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns are not only riding the struggle bus, they've stripped the catalytic converter and are riding it until the wheels fall off apparently.
The team has lost their last eight-of-eleven to fall to 14-14 on the season. They're still in playoff position (clinging on to the No. 10 seed in the West) though the panic button looks awfully tempting right now.
One player believes a bigger role can help.
Eric Gordon told Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes he hasn't exactly been getting the looks he's wanted as of late.
"Early on in the season, it was better. And lately, there just hasn't been an emphasis [to get me more looks]," Gordon told Haynes. "So, it's definitely different. Lately I haven't been getting hardly any touches really."
Gordon has started 17 of the 24 games he's played in and has been a consistent part of a Suns lineup that hasn't really found full health all season. All of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal have missed various amounts of time due to injury.
Gordon and Grayson Allen have been typical faces in the starting lineup - and outside of the team's star trio - nobody has averaged more points (13.2) or shot attempts (11.5) per night than Gordon.
The beginning of the season saw Gordon average 15 shots per night while November saw that number drop to 11. In the last eight games, only twice has he hit the double digit mark.
"Everybody knows the type of player I am and what I'm about. I came here to win, but what I do is score," Gordon said to B/R. "And I think when I score, it really opens up the door for a lot of people because I can score in big games and in big ways. That's just what it is."
December has seen Gordon play an average of 31.7 minutes per night, though he's hit a cold shooting streak after going 0-2 against Sacramento, 1-7 against Portland and 3-11 two games prior to that against Golden State.
After their loss to the Kings on Friday night, Vogel admitted the Suns need to involve Gordon more offensively.
"I got to keep moving the pieces around in terms of how we're using certain guys. Can we get Eric Gordon more involved than I'm doing? I'm not doing a good enough job in making sure he's involved in the offense. He's a guy that can really help us."
The Suns are back home to face the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day.
