Former Suns Player Michael Beasley Signs 7-Figure Deal in China

Beasley, who played for Phoenix during the 2012-13 season, is set to join the Shanghai Sharks.

On Sunday morning, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported former NBA player Michael Beasley inked a deal with the Chinese Basketball Association's Shanghai Sharks. The deal is reportedly worth seven figures.

Beasley's basketball journey has been well worth the documentation. After being selected as the No. 2 overall pick in 2008, he played for three teams until his initial stint with the Sharks in 2014.

Beasley bounced from the CBA to the NBA since then, which includes stints with the Shandong Golden Stars, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers. He was signed as a substitute player for the Brooklyn Nets during the 2019-20 season but a positive COVID test nullified his deal.

Last season, he played for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico's first division basketball league.

His short sting with the Phoenix Suns (2012-13) saw him average 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Beasley initially signed a three-year contract with the Suns worth $18 million, but was waived in early 2013 after he was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana.

"We worked hard to devote ourselves to Michael's success, but we have to maintain the standards to build a championship culture," said Phoenix president of basketball operations Lon Babby at the time.

To this point, Beasley has played in 609 games in the NBA and over 80 in the CBA.
