Kevin Durant: Agent, Dad Wanted Me to Sign With Knicks
PHOENIX -- Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant has never strayed from making his opinions known or felt, and such was the case again when he appeared on a Boardroom interview with his agent Rich Kleiman.
After initially playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant departed for the Golden State Warriors and ultimately won two titles before he again found himself ready to hit the open market.
Durant chose the Brooklyn Nets - though it was revealed Durant's agent wanted him to sign with the New York Knicks.
“Will you tell the camera and whatever Knicks fans will watch this that I wanted you to go to the Knicks,” Keiman said on the pod.
“You definitely did, you definitely did, more than anything,” Durant responded. “… My dad, you, love the Knicks,” Durant continued. “My aunt loves the Knicks.”
Durant spent a few years in Brooklyn but never made a deep push into the postseason as the Nets battled injuries and high expectations during his time with the organization. Last year, he requested a trade to Phoenix and a deal was done in the final hours leading into the NBA's trade deadline.
“The brand was cool, but at the time, I’m not looking at the cool brand outside of the game,” Durant said on not joining the Knicks.
“I was looking at the team, and the [Knicks] was not cool to play for. The team was not cool to watch. It wasn’t a good team to watch. I might have embellished a little bit or lied a little bit about the brand. I might have thrown the brand in there, too. But of course, the Knicks brand - living in New York made me truly realize how it’s the greatest city in the world.”
