NBA Launches Official Review of Suns-Pistons Incident
PHOENIX -- The NBA is officially launching their review of what transpired last night between Detroit Pistons player Isaiah Stewart and Phoenix Suns player Drew Eubanks.
In the lead up to last night's game between the two teams, Stewart and Eubanks got into an altercation that resulted in Stewart being arrested for assault after striking Eubanks in the arena.
NBA insider Shams Charania just went live on Twitter/X and shared what he learned:
"I'm told Drew Eubanks was punched in the mouth area and from what I'm told, the footage will show, Drew Eubanks barely flinched. He stood there stone cold, took the punch obviously and police/security got involved, separated them. Police had Isaiah Stewart escorted out of the arena, and then he was arrested and given his citation and released after that. So this is really in the hands of local law enforcement. Their investigation - which is active as well as the league's investigation that's going to take place over the coming days and weeks."
More from the entire situation:
SUNS OFFICIAL STATEMENT
“The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable. We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA.”
MONTY WILLIAMS' RESPONSE
"The NBA will do an investigation. I’ve talked to (Stewart). He shared with me what happened. Our people have talked to him and they have information, but for me to come here and make a statement, that would be a bit irresponsible.
"I know the Suns put out a statement and said it was 'unprovoked.' I think that is irresponsible for them to do that when you really don’t know because two sides are giving their story.
"I think until you find out everything, you can’t make those statements. I heard about that and I just thought that did not need to happen."
DREW EUBANKS STATEMENT
“Basically we were walking in, words were said and we got face-to-face, and then (Stewart) just sucker-punched me,” Eubanks said pregame to reporters.
“You can see what he does, how he acts on the court.”
