Suns, NBA Officially Announce 2027 All-Star Game
PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns officially confirmed they are hosting 2027 NBA All-Star festivities in a press conference at Footprint Center.
The news was first reported by NBA insider Shams Charania a week ago.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Suns owner/governor Mat Ishbia were in attendance for the special moment.
The press conference began with an announcement video narrated by Suns legend Steve Nash before Silver made things official.
"How soon can we get All-Star back here," Ishbia said to Silver shortly after meeting him for the first time.
Mission accomplished.
Indianapolis recently hosted the All-Star Game, though the NBA didn't appear to be too pleased with their overall hosting abilities after announcing new criteria which includes:
- 7,250 hotel rooms and at least three hotels with five-star ratings;
- convention center with no less than 650,000 square feet of space;
- airport that offers at least 75 domestic nonstop flights and 20 international flights.
Phoenix certainly fits that bill.
This will be the fourth time Phoenix has hosted NBA All-Star weekend, last doing so in 2009. The city also was home to action in 1975 and 1995.
The WNBA will be having their All-Star Game activities here in Phoenix over the summer as well.
The state of Arizona has been home to some of the biggest sporting events in the world such as the Super Bowl, NCAA Tournament Final Four, and numerous international soccer matches on top of other premier sporting events.
The first NBA All-Star Game was held back in 1951.
The Suns are currently 36-26 with the No. 6 seed in the West entering tonight. They'll take on the Toronto Raptors.
