Report: Monty Williams Agrees to Long-Term Extension
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Phoenix Suns and coach Monty Williams have agreed on a long-term contract extension, according to his sources.
Williams has been a heavy part of Phoenix's success in recent memory, and that was reflected when he was awarded as the NBA's Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season.
Williams initially took over for the Suns in 2019, steadily improving and growing Phoenix with each season at the helm. His coaching career first began in 2005 as an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers after playing ten years in the league as a small forward.
After nearly winning the NBA Finals last season, Phoenix managed to improve on their regular season prowess by reaching new heights in 2022. The Suns were the first team to clinch a playoff birth last year with an overall record of 53-13. Phoenix also finished the season by establishing a new franchise record for wins in the regular season with 64 wins.
Although the team has fallen short of winning the NBA Finals, locking down Williams was a priority the front office couldn't ignore.
Financial details and precisely how much longer he's under contract have yet to be released at this time, but Williams won't be leaving Phoenix for quite some time.
