Report: Kevin Durant to Meet With Brooklyn Nets Owner
The Phoenix Suns have been tied to Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant since the very beginning of a trade saga that has now expanded into a second month.
Durant has been nothing short of silent on his end following the request to move on from Brooklyn, although Heavy.com reports that he's set to meet Nets owner Joe Tsai sometime this week.
The unknown reason or desired direction for the meeting is unknown.
"What I’m hearing is that KD is going to meet with the owner this week,” a source told Heavy.com “He’s going to go directly to the owner, Joe Tsai, sometime this week. We’ll see how that works.
“I have no idea what’s going to come of that meeting. There are some things that KD is unhappy about, and I’m not sure any of that gets fixed here. But maybe it does.”
Various teams have been brought up to potentially welcome Durant with open arms, yet Brooklyn is fine sitting back and perhaps hoping the dust settles in time for both her and Kyrie Irving to remain with the team.
The Nets don't control their most of their future draft picks after the James Harden trade sent them to Houston. The only option, in Brooklyn's perspective, is to retain a sizable return for Durant or force his hand to play while he's under contract for the next four years.
Another source told Heavy.com not to expect Durant to fight if this draws into the season.
“I don’t see KD being a hard line guy, either. If they can’t get a deal done, he’s just going to say, ‘[Expletive] it,’ and he’ll play — and he’ll play hard like he always does. I know KD, and he’s not going to sit out or anything like that. He’s not that kind of guy. There’s no way. He’s not going to do anything like that," said the source.
“If Brooklyn wants to be good now, the fastest way to that is KD and Kyrie and (Ben) Simmons together playing well. With anything else, you’re pretty much scrambling this season and waiting for those draft picks to bring you something good down the line. No matter who you bring back in a trade now, he’s not going to be KD.”
Time will tell if the Suns are able to snag Durant at their desired price. Phoenix already is content with running their current group of players back, but if the opportunity to land one of the league's best scorers arises, only those within the actual negotiations will understand how close or far the Suns are from striking a deal.
