Report: Suns Seriously Pursuing Ayton Sign-And-Trade
The Phoenix Suns have been rumored to be seriously interested in working a sign-and-trade scenario with center Deandre Ayton. Multiple insiders have essentially confirmed this was the most likely outcome for both sides, yet one more NBA insider put their name to similar reports.
NBA insider Marc Stein recently published his weekly roundup of intel around the league. This week focused more on Ayton's situation in Phoenix.
A small snippet from Stein's Substack:
"Who is the most prominent player likely to switch teams this offseason? I fumbled for the answer when I was asked on the spot, but I’ve since borrowed the excellent framing of the question in question for use when I speak with representatives from other teams. The name most cited when I ask: Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton. It’s Ayton ahead of Utah’s Rudy Gobert, Detroit’s Jerami Grant, Atlanta’s John Collins and Toronto’s OG Anunoby, as well as the stars whose current teams can significantly outbid the field in free agency, most notably Chicago’s Zach LaVine and Washington’s Bradley Beal."
Ayton enters free agency as a restricted free agent, meaning he can go search for other offers but the Suns would have two days to match.
The belief around Phoenix is the organization will not let Ayton walk for free, with all signs pointing to him remaining with the Suns until the organization finds an acceptable trade package back.
