Wizards Analyst Says Bradley Beal Will be 'Great' With Suns
Since being taken over by new owner Mat Ishbia - the Phoenix Suns haven't been shy about making a splash.
That was again the case when the Suns acquired Bradley Beal via trade on Sunday from the Washington Wizards in a trade package that also included Landry Shamet and Chris Paul departing the Valley.
Phoenix now has a third scorer behind Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, filling a glaring need that was spotlighted during their most recent postseason run. Beal is a three-time NBA All-Star that averaged 23.2 points per game last season.
What should Suns fans expect out of their new shooting guard?
On Arizona Sports' Bickley and Marotta, The Athletic's Josh Robbins (who covers the Wizards) gave listeners some insight into the newest member of the Suns:
“Very smart guy, tremendous acceleration to the basket, can really score,” Robbins said.
“The three-point shot in recent years has been below standards, although last year he shot 37%. He’s a willing passer. He’s going to be better offensively in Phoenix than he was in Washington, and especially in recent years when he would come off a screen, he’d be met by two guys.
“I imagine he’s just going to love to have the space that’s going to be created by playing next to two elite scorers. I think he’s going to be really good, maybe even great as a scorer.”
Beal will likely stay as a shooting guard as Booker slides to point guard duties, where he had experience last season bringing the ball up and running the offense through his hands.
We already saw what spacing Booker was able to take advantage of with Durant's presence, and now Phoenix's three-headed monster should be able to eat on most nights.
If Beal can stay healthy (he's only played 60 games once in the last four seasons), the Suns should be able to do serious damage thanks to Beal's abilities.
