Jett Howard Fits Multiple OKC Needs in One Prospect

Jett Howard grew up around the game and his dad’s career, now he’s looking to carve his path as a top tier shooting prospect.

Jett Howard doesn’t fall far from the tree of his father.

The son of Michigan head coach Juwan Howard, Jett, has been around basketball his whole life and he knows the pressures that come with taking the next step in the game.

Jett, a 6-foot-8 forward, showed glimpses of potential stardom in his lone season playing under his dad in Ann Arbor. Howard is a much different player than his father as he is more of a smooth wing who can take and knock down 3-point shots consistently, he shot 36.8% this season from beyond the arc.

Howard averaged 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and two assists in his season with the Wolverines.

While Howard isn’t the fastest player on the court, and doesn’t have a strong ability to blow past defenders on a cut or drive he does have ball handling skills that help him make up for the lack in straight line speed.

Doubts surround Howard’s defensive abilities, but his long term projections bode well enough for teams to take a chance on him for his offensive skill set in the late lottery. Despite problems with his overall defensive skill set, Howard can defend multiple positions thanks to his size, length and athleticism.

Oklahoma City could use more 3-point help from the wing from a player like Howard. Who can stretch the floor but isn’t afraid to be a high volume shooter from behind the arc.

Howard’s abilities were put on display early and often throughout his season with his father and the Wolverines. His early impact and eye-catching shooting ability took him from a player projected to return to college for a second season to a lottery pick before the mid-season mark.

With Oklahoma City projected to the No. 12 pick before the lottery, with a chance to be slightly higher or lower, Howard is likely on the OKC radar as he fits multiple needs of the roster into one player, size and shooting.
