OKC Thunder: Kobe Brown Offers Shooting, Size in Second Round
Oklahoma City has had luck recently with big men in the draft, and have another chance this season to add another.
Kobe Brown is a 6-foot-8 forward out of Missouri who weighs 250-pounds. The easiest adjective to describe Brown is massive.
Brown may have to slim down just a little bit to make the move to the next level, but his skillset speaks for itself, and he shouldn’t have a major issue contributing at the next level.
Brown is 23-years-old, making him an older player in the draft after playing four seasons for the Tigers. Brown was a big contributor all four seasons in college, but saw a massive role increase his junior and senior seasons. In his four years he played in 123 games, starting 119 of them.
Last season Brown averaged 15.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. It was his best year of his career. Brown is an efficient shooter, especially in the paint and inside the 3-point line.
His first three seasons, Brown struggled from the 3-point line not eclipsing 25% in any season. However, this season Brown erupted shooting 45.5% from beyond the arc on the most attempts per game of his career.
If Brown can continue to shoot at a high clip beyond the arc matched with his size and ability in the paint, he would be a great fit in the NBA.
In an NBA that continues to trend toward big men being more positionless and needing to be able to play beyond the arc, Brown’s increased 3-point ability massively helps his draft stock.
In OKC, Brown would fit in OKC as the team continues to work on improving shooting and size he helps fill in both needs. At No. 50, Brown presents solid upside and value late in the second round.
