Thunder Draft: History of the No. 37 Overall Pick

With its first pick of the second round, Oklahoma City will select at No. 37 overall. Who has landed in this spot in years past?
In this story:

The Oklahoma City Thunder currently has three selections in the 2023 NBA Draft. One is in the lottery at No. 12 overall, while the other two will fall in the second round.

With the first Thunder selection of round two, the team will pick at No. 37 overall. There’s many times in which first-round talents fall into this range, making it an opportunity to really add quality talent to the roster at good value.

To further validate the ability to find contributors early in the second round, let’s take a look at the players picked at No. 37 overall during the past decade.

  • 2022: Jaden Hardy
  • 2021: JT Thor
  • 2020: Vit Krejci
  • 2019: Deividas Sirvydis
  • 2018: Gary Trent Jr.
  • 2017: Semi Ojeleye
  • 2016: Chinanu Onuaku
  • 2015: Richaun Holmes
  • 2014: DeAndre Daniels
  • 2013: Tony Mitchell

Roughly half of these players are still playing in the NBA, with a couple contributing at a high level. Even early in the second round, there’s no guarantee that the prospect will pan out. With that in mind, Thunder GM Sam Presti is a fantastic evaluator of talent and will make the right selection here.

The No. 37 pick could also be one Presti looks to trade. Whether it’s packaging that with No. 50 or even future draft capital, moving into the first round with this pick is absolutely on the table. Especially if there’s a prospect the OKC staff likes that falls into the late part of the first round, don’t be shocked if the Thunder trade up using this pick.
