2023 NBA Draft: Keyonte George Could Add Firepower to OKC Thunder

Keyonte George has had a stellar freshman season at Baylor, and could add some much-needed offensive firepower to OKC.

With Baylor’s Big 12 Tournament over, freshman Keynote George’s college career is likely winding down and his draft stock continues to rise.

George is a projected top-10 pick and continues to impress on a Baylor team that could make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. He’s jumped up boards recently and has the chance to keep climbing with a big showing in March Madness.

Draft Boards have him projected to be on the board when Oklahoma City could make their draft selection, leaving the chance another Baylor guard ends up in OKC.

George is an intriguing prospect for his athleticism and his ability to drive to the basket and finish at the rim. However, despite his elite ability to get downhill to the rim George takes a large amount of 3-point shots. He takes about seven shots from beyond the arc per game but makes just 2.5 per game.

George is shooting at a 34.9% from beyond the arc, and 38.7% from the field. He’s the Bears leading scorer nabbing 15.8 points per game. He also grabs 4.2 boards and 2.8 assists per game as the Bears primary ball-handler.

Oklahoma City is loaded at guard but another dynamic guard off of the bench could help the team continue to develop young pieces. With other bench guards struggling at times this season, pressure from a new draft pick could be exactly what OKC needs.

George’s abilities are raw but clear, and OKC provides him with a chance to develop and work on his expanding offensive game. If George develops a more consistent or efficient 3-point shot, he could be a lethal addition to an NBA team.

The Thunder are still fighting for position in both the play-in and the reverse standings, but a lottery pick is likely and would land them in range to select George.
