The Oklahoma City Thunder have been more active than expected early in free agency. First, they traded with the Miami Heat to acquire Victor Oladipo in a salary dump deal, and now they bring over Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Thunder signed Micic to a three-year, $23.5 million deal. This deal leaves Micic under contract with the Thunder through the 2025-26 NBA season.

The Thunder traded for Micic's draft rights in 2020, and since then, there's been speculation as to when Micic would make his leap to the NBA. At first, Micic wanted to be in a position to have a starting role and competing at a high level while securing a big contract. The Thunder hadn't been in that position, but now the Thunder were able to make a pitch as a team that is up and coming and will be competing for years to come.

Micic has a decorated resume from his overseas career, with his most recent achievement being the back-to-back EuroLeague Finals MVP after winning two straight championships. He won the EuroLeague MVP award in 2021, which was the start of two straight championship season's for the point guard.

EuroLeague isn't the only league Micic has found success in, either, as he has won the Turkish League championship three times since 2019.

This deal brings Micic to Oklahoma City to play the backup point guard role and bring his veteran presence to test the waters in the NBA. With the current standing of the Thunder's roster, Micic will be able to immediately help the Thunder make their way back to postseason play.

The Thunder are adding an instant-impact, 29-year-old guard that has a high IQ and can score the ball. Theoretically, Micic could contribute to a contender as is, but the Thunder give him a solid opportunity to show his value at the NBA level, as he can help the Thunder find their way back into the playoffs.
