Cason Wallace Set to Debut for OKC Thunder on Saturday

Tenth overall 2023 draftee Cason Wallace is set to make his debut for Oklahoma City on Saturday.

After missing out on Oklahoma City’s Salt Lake City slate due to an un-finalized trade with Dallas, tenth overall pick Cason Wallace is finally set to debut for the Thunder on Saturday.

Wallace, who spent just one season at Kentucky, will see his first professional action against the very same team that traded out of the tenth overall slot where he was drafted: the Dallas Mavericks.

The former Kentucky guard is set to infuse the Oklahoma City Summer League roster with a variety of helpful skills: stingy defense, passing, playmaking and on or off-ball scoring. Wallace’s skillset is sure to make an already solid Thunder squad — who has the likes of Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, Jaylin Williams, Tre Mann and more — even better.

Thus far, Oklahoma City is 2-1 with wins over the Jazz and Sixers.

In college, Wallace played his first chunk of games off-ball before becoming the Wildcat’s primary point guard. In OKC’s system, he’ll likely do the same on a much more fast-paced basis, toggling between a variety of different positions due to his versatility.

At Kentucky, Wallace averaged 11.7 points, 4.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals while shooting 45 percent overall, 35 percent from beyond the arc and 76 percent from the line.

The Thunder are sure to have their hands full with the Mavericks, who drafted two first rounders in Duke’s Dereck Lively II twelfth and Olivier-Maxence Prosper 24th overall.

Oklahoma City will face Dallas at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Thomas & Mack Center.
