In this story:

Fresh off the best season of his young career, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is continuing his success in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Per HoopsHype’s overall rating, Gilgeous-Alexander ranks third among all players in the World Cup, trailing only Slovenia’s Luka Doncic and Montenegro’s Nikola Vukcevic. The Thunder guard graded a 33.55 per the site's Global Rating.

In his most recent NBA season, Gilgeous-Alexander finished fifth in MVP voting, averaging 31.4 points, 5.5 assists. 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 51 percent overall and 34.5 percent from beyond the arc.

In two FIBA games, the 25-year-old is averaging 19.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. So far, Canada has two resounding wins: 128-73 over Lebanon and 95-65 over one of the top-ranked teams in France.

His offseason success bodes well for Oklahoma City, who's looking to churn through a tough Western Conference next season with the likes of Josh Giddey, Jalen Williams, the return of Chet Holmgren and new additions in Vasilije Micic and Cason Wallace.

With players like OKC's Gilgeous-Alexander and Luguentz Dort, New York's RJ Barrett, Houston's Dillon Brooks and more, Canada has already made more noise than usual in the tournament, and looks to continue to do so.

Team Canada next takes on Latvia at 8:30 a.m. CT. Gilgeous-Alexander will look to continue to prove himself among the best players in the world on the big stage.
