Injury Report, Updated Odds (10/9): Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs
The NBA season is here. The Oklahoma City Thunder is back and they're hosting the San Antonio Spurs to open up preseason play. While it's not official regular season play yet, the Thunder and Spurs will be able to get a look at their young cores and depth pieces in the matchup.
Thunder fans get the opportunity to see Chet Holmgren in his first NBA action, albeit preseason action, after missing the entirety of his first season with an injury. This also comes with the luxury of watching Victor Wembanyama in person for the first time, as he also debuts with the Spurs.
Injury Report:
Thunder:
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OUT (rest)
Vasilije Micic, OUT (ankle sprain)
Aleksej Pokusevski, OUT (ankle sprain)
Victor Oladipo, OUT (knee)
Spurs:
Jeremy Sochan, OUT (soreness)
Keldon Johnson, OUT (soreness)
Takeaways:
So, obviously, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren will play in this one. Two of the most hyped-up big men will be able to go head-to-head to start the season. They'll meet up again early in the regular season, but they'll get a taste of the matchup here in preseason, though the amount of minutes each will play isn't known and might not be much.
It's a bummer that Micic will be out, but listed as day-to-day, he'll be able to make his Thunder debut very soon.
Updated Odds:
The Thunder is a 4.5-point favorite with the over/under on total points for the game being 225. The Thunder might be the more talented, deeper team from top to bottom, so even while missing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to rest, they should be able to win the minutes with whatever lineup.
With how the Thunder coaches and approaches the game, there should be no huge drop-off when making substitutions and rotating the lineup, whereas the Spurs are still establishing themselves as a team and might see some of that.
Of course, preseason basketball is always unpredictable, so tread lightly.
