Josh Giddey Continues to Grow With Australia Ahead of FIBA World Cup

Australia was defeated 90-86 by Brazil but saw positive performances from both Josh Giddey and Jack White.

Australia's national basketball team was at it once again, this time taking on Brazil in Melbourne, Australia. The Boomers eventually fell to Brazil 90-86 despite the everchanging momentum.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on 7-of-19 shooting. While the efficiency wasn't all the way there, signs of progression continue for the third-year guard.

First of all, the 6-foot-9 guard shot nine shots from the charity stripe. His career-high free throw attempts in the NBA stands at seven. His increased aggression is going to change that, and if he's able to consistently get free throws for the Thunder, the offense will get even more efficient.

With a slow start for Australia, Giddey didn't start the game shooting well. He was 1-of-6 through the first quarter. This didn't slow him down for the entire game, however. The team plays through him, and he can't afford to quit shooting. He remained aggressive with the ball in his hands.

Also, off the ball, Giddey shined as a rebounder. He racked up four of his rebounds on the offensive side of the ball. Not only did he continually find himself in the right position, but he got there using his physicality and frame.

Jack White saw a decent amount of burn, playing just under 11 minutes. His most important stretch of basketball was to open the second quarter. He added two baskets and a steal to pile momentum in a quarter that finished 28-20 in favor of the Boomers.

He finished the game with nine points and four rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting while being a plus-four in the box score.

While the team ultimately fell short, the two Thunder players both provided a positive impact in their respective roles, and Thunder fans ought to be happy with what they've seen from their talents.
