OKC Thunder: Keyontae Johnson Showing Strong Scoring Skills in Summer League

Keyontae Johnson has already put together some strong outings in 2023 Summer League.

With headliners like Chet Holmgren, Cason Wallace and more, it’s easy to hyper-focus on a few key players on the Oklahoma City Thunder roster. But the No. 50 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Keyontae Johnson, has impressed in his Summer League slate.

Johnson has flown under the radar so far, but he’s been a white-hot scoring machine dating to his days at Kansas State and even Florida. Through three games in Las Vegas, and coming off a minor hamstring injury no less, Johnson is averaged 14.5 points on 64 percent shooting.

He was quiet in his first performance, scoring just seven points on two-for-five shooting off the bench.

In his last two, however, he’s reached another gear.

On Tuesday, Johnson was one of the few who had his offensive game going, putting together a 19-point, five-rebound performance while shooting nine-for-14 overall. He and KJ Williams were the team’s leading scorers on the day.

On Wednesday against Indiana, Johnson had his best game to date, pouring on 18 points on seven-for-nine shooting in 26 minutes off the bench. He looked phenomenal early, hitting shot after shot to propel the Thunder lead.

It’s clear the OKC Summer League squad has talent, and with some of the roster set to sit, Johnson could have even more opportunity to showcase his skillset soon.

The Thunder now look to a Friday matchup versus the Wizards at 3:30 p.m. in Cox Pavilion.
