OKC Thunder Not Concerned With 'Playoff Whistle' Just Want Consistency

As the NBA Playoffs draw near, the discussion has ramped up around how each team will adapt to the feared "playoff whistle."
When the games grow in stakes, the NBA officials tend to swallow their whistles and let teams decide things on the hardwood. With more physical play, which tends to favor defenses and lessen free throw attempts in the postseason.
This should be something that helps the Oklahoma City Thunder if the zebras do not put air in the whistle its physical defensive style will more seamlessly translate to the playoffs than it already is expected to. While the Thunder do foul more than any other team they also generate less free throws than nearly any other team. In fact, the OKC Thunder own the 29th free throw attempt differential (-3.7).
While on paper that creates an advantage logically due to the nature of playoff basketball, Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault is not viewing it that way. All he wants is consistency.
“I don’t look at it in terms of how the whistle benefits us. We adapt to the whistle. We benefit from a consistent whistle because we can more easily adapt to it if it’s consistent… If it’s difficult to know [how the game will be called each night], it’s harder to adapt. We don’t really care how they’re going to call it. But if they call it the same night to night, that makes it easier to adapt," Daigneault said.
Oklahoma City is a popular pick to win the Western Conference so how they translate to the postseason will be placed under the microscope. Though, there is no reason to believe the Thunder's outcome in the playoffs will hinge on a whistle.
