OKC Thunder Shooting Well Above 50 Percent on Average in Last Three Contests
Oklahoma City is rolling.
On a six-game winning streak, three 40-point outings from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in a span of two weeks, and a rookie duo as promising as any in Chet Holmgren and Cason Wallace — the sample size is getting larger and larger, and the Thunder now sit at No. 2 in the West.
Just under 20% through the season, Oklahoma City has remained atop the league's best in shooting efficiency across all fronts — field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and free throw percentage.
A reminder, they're doing this as the second youngest team in the entire association.
The team's strengths have overshadowed its issues early, and head coach Mark Daigneault continues to cultivate cohesive lineups in specific in-game situations, leading to multiple wins late down the stretch in contests that they more than likely would not have won a year ago.
But this year, the team is entirely different.
The aforementioned efficiency has been paramount to its success — more drive and kicks leading to open catch-and-shoot threes, a fast-paced offense on the break and dribble-drive penetration has led to fine shot selection and easy makes.
Within its last three games and ultimate wins over the Golden State Warriors, Portland Trailblazers and Chicago Bulls, the Thunder shot 53.9% from the field on average.
It's been entertaining to watch this team continue to grow — but they've also been doing this virtually all season long.
Oklahoma City is shooting 50.2% on field goals, 40.8% on 3-pointers and 86.2% on free throws, marking the Thunder with the best true shooting percentage in the league thus far.
Wallace leads the team as a rookie in shooting percentage with 62.7% and has seemingly been the most efficient player within this Thunder offense.
Kenrich Williams has also been an efficient shot maker since his season debut on Nov. 14 — shooting 62.5% from three on a small sample size and shooting 61.9% altogether.
It's certainly been a group project up to this point, and just about everyone is putting their effort in to create something promising.
While still being early in the season, the legitimacy and sustainability of this Thunder team continues to solidify week after week.
