OKC Thunder Sign Coach Mark Daigneault to Multi-Year Extension
The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed head coach Mark Daigneault to a multi-year contract extension, per the team.
Daigneault has seen consistent growth with the Thunder since the beginning of his tenure, winning 22 games in his first season and 24 in his second before an exponential jump to 40 wins just last season.
The 16-win spike earned him a runner-up finish in last season’s Coach of the Year Award.
Next year, the team is primed and ready to do even more, with All-NBA first teamer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the helm, flanked by the likes of Josh Giddey, Jalen Williams and former No. 2 overall pick Chet Holmgren.
Daigneault has oft been called a players coach by the Thunder roster, but has quickly emerged among the NBA coaching ranks as a swift and decisive in-game decision-maker, too.
Winning more games was undoubtedly positive, but Daigneault’s alignment with the philosophy of the Thunder organization, and more specifically general manager Sam Presti, is assuredly one of the major reasons he’s being extended.
Details on the deal have yet to be released, but it's been made clear from Presti and others that Daigneault is set to be a voice in the organization for the foreseeable future.
Oklahoma City’s next game action will take place in preseason.
