OKC Thunder Slated for Two Additional Games Following In-Season Tournament Elimination
The NBA has announced two additional games to be added to Oklahoma City's schedule following its loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.
Despite Minnesota taking the victory, the Sacramento Kings will be the team to advance to the single-game elimination rounds out of West Group C after mounting a 24-point against Golden State on Tuesday evening — setting themselves up to play the New Orleans Pelicans.
The eight group winners who advance to the knockout rounds will have an opportunity to advance to the semifinals in Las Vegas, ending in the in-season tournament championship from Dec. 7 to Dec. 9.
The other 22 teams around the league were given two regular season games they'll compete in next week.
For the Thunder, who sit at 1-3 in group play and No. 4 in West Group C, its elimination from the tournament will see Oklahoma City face off against the Houston Rockets and the Golden State Warriors.
The Thunder (11-6) and the Rockets (8-7) are slated for a 7 p.m. CT tipoff time on Wednesday, Dec. 6, and will be the first meeting between the two young teams this season.
Plenty of eyes will be on the matchup between rookie Chet Holmgren and Alperen Sengun, pitting two young, lengthy versatile scorers and solid rebounders against each other.
Against Golden State (8-10), Oklahoma City is set to take them on at 7 p.m. CT on that Friday, Dec. 8, marking the fourth and final meeting between the two teams this year, with what will be just over 20 games into the season.
The Thunder hold the series lead at 2-1, with both wins coming on the road in the midst of a six-game winning streak.
