NBA Power Rankings: OKC Thunder Cracks Top-10 in League's Latest
Ten games into the NBA season, the Oklahoma City Thunder is beginning to receive its flowers.
After securing three wins last week and proving to be dominant in them, coach Mark Daigneault's squad is not only one of the league's rising teams, but the league's power rankings' as well.
A week ago, Oklahoma City came in middle of the pack: No. 15. It had shown a level of competence against its opponents, but dropped two straight to the Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans.
Both losses were close, but neither time the Thunder was able to come away victorious. This week, that changed.
Oklahoma City is now No. 6 in the NBA's latest iteration of power rankings, and for good reason.
"The Thunder is 5-0 against the Eastern Conference after handling two good East teams — Atlanta and Cleveland — rather easily last week," NBA.com wrote. "But it was the only team (East or West) without a win within its conference before it came back from a six-point fourth-quarter deficit in Phoenix on Sunday."
Beating the Suns on the road was an ideal showcase for the young Thunder. Not only did it handle one of the league's best scorers, but it took over the came when it mattered most and came away with a big-time win.
But more than the record, the stat sheet is showing Oklahoma City's dominance, too.
"The Thunder is the only team that ranks in the top five in both effective field goal percentage and free throw percentage," NBA.com continued."
Safe to say, the team is doing well.
Between Chet Holmgren's defensive impact, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's superstar showings and Jalen Williams continued performances — that's not even mentioning Cason Wallace's impressive first 10 games — Oklahoma City sits in good hands.
And now, a top-10 ranking as well.
