LOOK: Chet Holmgren, Thunder Players Visit Firefighters at Work
Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren may stand 7-foot-1 and tower over even some NBA players, but he still isn't tall enough to reach a second-story window on his own.
It's a strange way to look at his height, but maybe not so much when you consider what he and some of the other Thunder players spent their Wednesday afternoon doing in the city.
In a surprise visit, players from Oklahoma City's roster took some time to visit OKC's Fire Station 14. Present at the event included Holmgren, Ousmane Dieng, Kenrich Williams, Olivier Sarr and Keyontae Johnson — all of which, minus Johnson, are still within the first few years of their NBA careers.
While at the station, the Thunder players got to try on equipment used during emergency responses — water tanks, branch cutters and more — while also taking a tour of the station and learning more about what goes on behind-the-scenes in the lives of firefighters.
The visit concluded with the players gifting the firefighters with team-branded T-shirts and fist bumping each first responder before a team left the station on a call.
Wednesday's surprise visit from the Thunder was simple, but went to show the team's desire to connect with the community in a unique way. On a more literal note, it also showed that the team was back in town, and ready to get back to work with less than a month remaining before NBA preseason.
The Oklahoma City Thunder will take the court for the first time of the preseason on Monday, Oct. 9 against the San Antonio Spurs at home. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
