OKC Thunder: 3 Pascal Siakam Trade Packages

Could the Oklahoma City Thunder trade for Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam without hindering the future upside of the team?

With a trio of superstar players available on the trade market, teams around the league are making calls to see what it would take to significantly improve their respective rosters. While Damian Lillard is the headline player that's known to be available, James Harden and Pascal Siakam would also move the needle for a team looking to make the playoffs.

A team like the Oklahoma City Thunder is already projected to compete for a spot in the postseason, but a trade for someone like Siakam would really make them one of the most interesting teams in the Western Conference,

With that in mind, it does feel somewhat early for the Thunder to make such a win-now move. On the flip side, Oklahoma City has five players that still need to be traded or waived between now and the end of training camp, along with plenty of assets to acquire talent. A consolidation trade for Siakam would not only improve the Thunder's roster, but also alleviate the roster crunch.

If there's one thing we know about Thunder GM Sam Presti, it's that he rarely pulls the trigger on deals he doesn't feel like he has the upper hand in. This is where a Siakam trade gets tricky, for two major reasons.

For starters, he's entering the final year of his current contract. This means he could be a one-year rental for OKC. As such, the Thunder will have to put together a package keeping that in mind while the Raptors will want full value. Due to this, the two parties would likely find it difficult to come to an agreement on fair value. Furthermore, Siakam's camp has indicated that he may not re-sign with whatever team trades for him.

As tricky as these types of deals are, it's not impossible to make them work. Given Siakam is an All-NBA caliber player, he's worth quite a bit even if he is a potential rental. Oklahoma City would have to be comfortable parting ways with solid young players and picks to make things work.

Let's look at three hypothetical trade packages.

Package #1: Dort Heads Back to Canada

  • 2026 Second-Round Pick (via ATL)
  • 2029 Second-Round Pick (via MIA)
  • 2029 Second-Round Pick (via HOU)
  • 2030 Second-Round Pick (via MIA)

Package #3: Pokusevski Gets Change of Scenery

  • Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
  • Victor Oladipo
  • Davis Bertans
  • 2 Future First-Round Picks (Top-8 Protected)

Again, these types of trades are hard to execute, given both teams have different viewpoints on value. It's hard to acquire a player that could be a rental that has a price tag that says otherwise.
