Prediction: MVP, Ring in the Cards for OKC Sooner Rather than Later
Last season Oklahoma City made a huge leap forward in its rebuild. With the team making the play-in tournament and even winning a game, they are already looking to continue to improve.
Each season the Thunder have made strides in competing for a championship once again. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continuing to grow and getting closer to his true prime, OKC is on the brink of entering a prime window to not only compete for but to win a championship.
That window should be opening soon and the Thunder have the chance to win a championship sooner rather than later. A championship could come to OKC in the next five years, but it could be even sooner. The window will likely open in a couple of seasons as Oklahoma City could still acquire a couple of pieces to fill some holes in the rotation.
In previous years when OKC has earned a true playoff spot, the success has followed. Only time will tell if the momentum will continue.
As for individuals, Gilgeous-Alexander's continued development and recent All-Star appearance continues to show the sky's the limit for the young Canadian. His skillset and role with the team puts him in position for the top awards in the league.
Gilgeous-Alexander could soon be a perennial All-Star with last season being just the beginning of his run. He also earned his first All-NBA nod last season, which could also be the first of many. With that it’s only a matter of time before he is in the MVP conversation and could even come away with one in the right situation.
Josh Giddey, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren also have All-NBA and All-Star potential. Williams barely missed out on being Rookie of the Year finishing runner-up, but Williams showed he’s a budding star with a high ceiling.
With the possibility of a new arena on the horizon, the growing energy from the fans and the growth of the team’s roster, the window of greatness is approaching for OKC.
A ring is in the future for the Thunder, it's just a matter of when, and that time could be soon.
