While franchises around the league are focused on Thursday’s draft, there’s also trade discussions and other acquisition strategies being discussed ahead of the official start of the new league year. One storyline to keep an eye on is the potential NBA leap of Vasilije Micic.

Micic is a Former EuroLeague MVP whose NBA rights are owned by the Thunder via a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020. The Serbian guard was selected No. 52 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft but has yet to make his NBA debut. This is due to being such a prolific player internationally and the desire for a large contract and prominent role when coming over.

With that in mind, it appears his debut could finally be on the horizon. As first reported by Aris Barkas of eurohoops.net, Micic was in Oklahoma City on Monday, which was later confirmed by Joe Mussatto of the Oklahoman.

The 29-year-old is absolutely one of the best players in Europe, but is still under contract with Anadolu Efes in Turkey.

Once the 2023 NBA Draft comes to an end, Micic and the Thunder can officially begin discussing his future and a potential contract. Whether he ends up in Oklahoma City, or is traded to another NBA team for his debut, it will be a long-awaited one.

Until a player actually plays at the NBA level, it’s impossible to know how well their skillset will translate. With that in mind, Micic is one of the few players with the experience and accolades that should make franchises feel comfortable giving him a shot, especially if that team is looking to contend.
