Thunder Drop Final Summer League Game to Spurs

Oklahoma City wrapped up its Summer League for 2023 against the Spurs on Sunday.

In the final game of the Summer League the Thunder fell to the Spurs 98-94.

The game would typically pit two of the brightest young cores in the league against each other, but most of the stars sat out for the game including Victor Wembanyama for the Spurs.

The Thunder young core that did play in the game struggled out of the gate to get momentum getting outscored 29-17 in the first quarter. From there the Thunder continued to fight back and didn’t back down.

Jared Butler continued his solid Summer League outing. Butler, who is fighting for a two-way contract, scored 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting.

The Thunder second year forward Ousmane Dieng struggled slightly, which is an outlier in this year's Summer League. He scored eight points on 3-off-11 shooting including 0-for-7 from 3-point range.

Cason Wallace also continued to play to round out his first Summer League. He played well overall despite not a huge showing in the numbers. His defense was solid and he added 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting bouncing back from a challenging showing.

The Spurs offense stayed hit for most of the game, but faltered in the fourth quarter. The Thunder’s Summer League was full of bright moments for the young core, but now the attention turns to the roster crunch and the full Thunder rotation.
