Thunder Roster Crunch: TyTy Washington's Summer League Stint

What did newly acquired guard TyTy Washington show with Oklahoma City during a short NBA Summer League stint?

After being acquired via trade by the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier this month, TyTy Washington had to wait for the deal to become official before joining the team. A first-round selection just last year, he has clear upside and a chance to make the roster in Oklahoma City.

With that in mind, his first two opportunities to make his case for one of the 15 full-time roster spots weren't all that impressive. In his Thunder debut on Friday, he notched just four points and two assists in 19 minutes. From there, he played once again on Sunday night and finished with eight points and five boards in roughly the same amount of time.

At the surface, it's easy to assume that means Washington didn't show enough to compete for a roster spot over the next few months. However, it's important to remember that this was just summer league and he joined the team late. These types of events are already pretty disjointed as it is, and he joined a team that had already played six games together. Chemistry is everything, so integrating was a tough task.

Either way, it would make sense to bring Washington into training camp to get a closer look. While there's 21 players on the roster today and six need to go, there's no need to rush into making a decision. The Thunder should continue to carry him into camp and see if he can prove he's one of the top 15 players on this OKC roster.
