What is Oklahoma City Thunder's Odds to Land Zion Williamson?
The Oklahoma City Thunder has plenty of young talent paired with more draft picks than they can possibly need over the next seven years. This keeps the team consistent in trade discussions and talks.
When a star asks out from their team, opposing teams with young players and plenty of draft picks to offer are often tied as trade partners. Again, this will continually be the Thunder as long as they maintain the draft capital they have.
The New Orleans Pelicans might be the next team with that dilemma. Zion Williamson needs the ball to be effective. Or a playmaker can have the ball. He can easily make that work, too.
Where things become an issue is when Williamson is playing with a scoring-heavy playing style that requires iso ball or heavy usage to get buckets. Brandon Ingram can be roped into that archetype.
Now, the two players can work, but they'll be slightly less effective alongside each other. This leads people to believe Williamson could be the next star to ask for a move, though it's unlikely this is the way it would go down.
The Thunder holds +1000 odds, the seventh-best odds, to be Williamson's next team, according to BetOnline.
Not only would the Thunder have the assets to make such a move, but the on-court fit might just be there. The Thunder have wing and guard play mostly figured out with plenty of young talents to continue developing, and Chet Holmgren might be the perfect center to play alongside Williamson.
Williamson would be provided the proper spacing, defense and a scoring threat in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with just enough ball movement to keep everyone more involved.
Williamson would hypothetically be in the perfect position to succeed given his playstyle and the Thunder would be bombarded with talent in the starting lineup, but a situation like this would require two things -- Williamson to both have a reason and to actually ask out of New Orleans and the Thunder to be in a position to be willing to pull the trigger on such a trade.
So, this is a pipe dream for Thunder fans, and it's a fun hypothetical, but the odds of this actually happening are incredibly low.
