Cavs' Donovan Mitchell latest star to miss game against Wolves

Mitchell received a platelet-rich plasma injection to treat a bone bruise in his left knee.

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Donovan Mitchell received a platelet-rich plasma injection to treat a bone bruise in his left knee on Monday and that the star guard will miss their next three games, including Friday night’s game against the Timberwolves in Cleveland. Mitchell missed the Cavaliers' previous two games due to the injury.

That makes Friday's matchup a little less daunting for Minnesota, which also visits the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night. The Cavaliers are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference standings, and the matchup figured to be an interesting one between one of the East’s best and one of the West’s best.

Instead, the Timberwolves will face a Mitchell-less Cavaliers team. It’s the latest game Minnesota will face a team down a star player, although fortunately for Timberwolves fans, it won’t come in downtown Minneapolis at Target Center.

Notably, several star players missed games against the Timberwolves in Minneapolis, including the Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic, the Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, the New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson, the Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid, the Indiana Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton and the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James.

Nevertheless, Friday's matchup loses a little intrigue with Mitchell now ruled out.
