Report: Timberwolves acquiring Monte Morris from Pistons
The Timberwolves are finalizing a deal to acquire Monte Morris from the Detroit Pistons, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Charania reported that the Timberwolves are trading Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr. and a second-round pick in exchange for Morris. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the second-round pick is the Timberwolves' own pick for 2030.
Morris missed much of the season for the Pistons due to a quad injury that sidelined him until Jan. 24, when he made his season debut against the Charlotte Hornets. Morris has played six games in all now for the Pistons, averaging 4.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He hasn't played more than 16 minutes in a game.
But Morris averaged double digits scoring in his last three seasons with the Washington Wizards and Denver Nuggets. Last year in Washington, he averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 assists while playing 27.4 minutes per game. He shot 48% from the field and 38% from 3-point range last season. He started the majority of the games he played the last two seasons for the Nuggets and Wizards, respectively.
The Timberwolves have been looking for more offense from their second unit and a true backup point guard who can run the offense and stretch the floor. Morris fits that bill as a reliable veteran who's shot 39% from 3 for his career and shown the ability to move the ball, both as a starter and off the bench.
