Rudy Gobert 'cussed out' Wolves at halftime of blowout win over Clippers
Minnesota's emphatic 21-point blowout of the third-place Los Angeles Clippers Monday night was inspired by Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert cussing the team out at halftime.
The Wolves entered halftime in Los Angeles down by four after the Clippers ended the first half on a 20-6 run. Minnesota then came out of the locker room and scored the first eight points of the third quarter, finishing with 40 points in the frame.
All-Star guard Anthony Edwards joked that the team getting "cussed out" at halftime ignited the 40-point outburst.
Edwards went on to name Gobert as the person that motivated the Wolves with his potty mouth. The young guard was quick to clarify that the swearing was in English because "we don't know French."
The electric second half guided the Wolves to their 37th win of the season and their league-leading 18th road win of the season. Minnesota's win Monday night keeps the team a game above the Oklahoma City Thunder and one-and-a-half games ahead of the Clippers and Denver Nuggets for the top spot in the Western Conference.
The Wolves will close out the pre-All-Star portion of their schedule with games in Portland Tuesday and Thursday night. Tipoff for both games against the 15-37 Trail Blazers is set for 9 p.m.
