Wolves fall to Kings in overtime after Anthony Edwards leaves game early
The Minnesota Timberwolves fell to the Sacramento Kings in overtime 124-120 after losing Anthony Edwards at halftime.
Edwards didn't return for the second half, with the Timberwolves announcing he was out for the remainder due to "personal reasons."
Further information wasn't given, but Athletic insider Jon Krawczynski said his departure was not health related.
The Wolves struggled without Edwards in the third quarter but produced an excellent fourth, outscoring the Kings 33-24 to send the game to overtime at 115-115.
And while the Wolves took an early lead in OT, consecutive 3s by Malik Monk put the Kings in command.
Monk was the difference between the teams, having entered halftime with just 4 points only to embark on a torrid run in the second half and overtime, racking up 35 points.
Monk missed two late free throws to give the Wolves a glimmer of a chance to tie it up at 123-120 down, only for Naz Reid's three point attempt to hit the rim.
The loss drops the Wolves to 42-18, a missed opportunity following second-placed Oklahoma City Thunder's loss on Thursday night.
Next up for the Wolves is another home game against the Clippers at Target Center Sunday.
