Gobert Apologizes for Endangering People Before Coronavirus Diagnosis

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert, whose positive coronavirus test on Wednesday led to the NBA decision to suspend the season, apologized for potentially exposing others to the virus.

Writing on Instagram, Gobert said: "The first and most important thing is I would like to publicly apologize to the people that I may have endangered, At the time, I had no idea I was even infected. I hope my story serves as a warning and causes everyone to take this seriously."

After Gobert tested positive and the NBA suspended its season, the NHL, MLB and virtually every other major American sports league followed suit and suspended theirs as well.

Gobert’s teammate Donovan Mitchell tested positive on Thursday—and according to ESPN, Jazz players are saying privately that Gobert was careless in willfully touching teammates and their belongings.

Gobert’s online post continued: "I was careless and make no excuses. I have gone through many emotions since learning of my diagnosis…mostly fear, anxiety, and embarrassment."

The two-time Defensive Player of the Year later said, however, that he is expected to make a full recovery.
