Former Warriors GM Reveals Untold Story on Leaving Team
Bob Myers is one of the most important figures in Golden State Warriors history. His twelve-year tenure with the team helped establish the franchise as we know it today, including the relationships with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
When it came time to finally leave the franchise in 2023, Myers knew it was going to be an incredibly tough task. One of the hardest parts about it was saying goodbye to Steph Curry.
Myers was a guest on JJ Redick's "The Old Man & the Three" podcast where he revealed an untold story about leaving the Warriors.
"When I decided I was leaving, I went to see him for dinner. I cried when I told him I was done," Myers said. "Mostly because I felt like I wasn't going to see him every day. Not because I'm 'giving up another chance to win a championship.' None of that. It was more like this person's not going to be in my life as much as they used to be and I'm doing this to myself."
What made Myers so emotional about saying goodbye to Curry was simply just who Steph Curry is as a person. He's the type of person that people will miss being around and one that's incredibly sincere.
"Because he's such a good person, such a good light," Myers said. "He's a light that I got to show up and be around ... it's tough, I do miss him. I miss the guy. He's a genuine article. People that think he's like that for the cameras or 'he's not really that nice a guy.' That's crap, he is man."
The Warriors haven't quite been the same team since Bob Myers left, but they've started figure things out a bit more as the season winds down. Still, it wouldn't be a bad thing to have Myers back on the team.
