Draymond Green Calls Out Anthony Edwards
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards made it very clear that he had no intention of taking All-Star Weekend seriously as a competitor.
"For me, it's an All-Star Game, so I don't think I will ever look at it like being super competitive," Edwards said. "It's always fun. I don't know what they can do to make it more competitive. I don't know. I think everyone looks at it - It's a break. So I don't think nobody wants to come here and compete."
These comments didn't sit well with a lot of fans, because while nobody is expecting playoff-like intensity in an All-Star game, fans do enjoy seeing the best players in the world competing at a high level.
It wasn't only these comments from Edwards that didn't sit well with fans, but he also talked before the game about only shooting left handed, which he ended up doing at the skills competition.
Addressing this on a recent podcast episode, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green called out Edwards for this careless approach to All-Star Weekend, saying, "For Anthony Edwards, who was in his first All-Star game that he was actually voted into... saying, 'We don't wanna be here, I don't wanna play.' A big deal on guys' resumes is All-Star Game MVP. I don't understand why a young Anthony Edwards wouldn't want his name sketched in stone next to likes of those guys."
Green added, "So to play defense backwards, to shoot left handed threes, I thought that was a little outlandish. I thought it was a little crazy and like I said a little disheartening, just because of who he is, who we all think he is going to be to this league. A part of being the face of the NBA is also being a steward of the game."
While Green said Edwards may not want to be the face of the NBA, many people see that potential in him.
