Draymond Green Gets Brutally Honest About Shooting Struggles
There was a period of time when it looked like Draymond Green lost all confidence in his shooting ability. It turns out, that's exactly what happened.
In the newest episode of Podcast P with Paul George, Green gave a very candid answer about losing confidence in his shot. In Green's instance, it was a very odd situation where he started his career having a shot, then suddenly lost all confidence throughout the years.
“It was all confidence though," Green said about his shooting. "And now I”m working to get that confidence back still. Last year was a big jump for me, it was a big hurdle. For a while, I’d miss that first one and would be like ‘oh no, I’m gonna do the rest of that shit. I ain’t shooting no more. And now I’m starting to get over that hurdle like miss the first one, oh I’ll take another, miss the second take another. But I’m still not there. That’s what excites me right now about my career going forward. I feel like I’m starting to tap back into that and once I tap all the way back into that I feel like who gonna stop me."
For four seasons straight from 2018-2022, Draymond Green found himself shooting under 30% from three. Prior to that, he was above 30% for five seasons straight, even shooting as good as 39% in 2015-16. He's started to regain some form in the 2022-23 season at 30.5%, but it's still not the level Warriors fans are used to.
Despite Draymond's poor shooting in the 2021-22 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors found themselves winning an NBA Championship. His shooting isn't everything to Golden State's success, but it's a major factor in the team's success.
