Draymond Green Reacts to Kevin Durant's Controversial GOAT Comments
Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant recently said in an interview with Duane Rankin of Arizona Republic that he would be in the GOAT discussion had he not joined the Golden State Warriors.
“Because I went to the Warriors,” Durant said in his exclusive interview with Rankin. “Why shouldn’t I be in that? That’s the question you should ask. Why not? What haven’t I done?”
These comments have of course been controversial, and Durant's former Warriors teammate Draymond Green weighed in on them during an episode of his podcast. While Green said he would never discredit Durant's championships, and acknowledged that the Suns star is one of the greatest scorers ever, Green ultimately believes he needs to lead a team to a championship the way Steph Curry did in 2022 in order to enter GOAT talks.
"Steph didn't get the credit that Steph gets today until 2022 when he led this team to a championship and won Finals MVP," Green said. "... You gotta go do what Steph did to get to that conversation."
This is a fair point from Green, who recognizes just how exclusive that conversation is, and why Durant is not there yet. That said, Green knows Durant is an all-time great, and undoubtedly one of the best scorers in NBA history. There is just a different level for the GOAT debate.
