Klay Thompson Makes Bold Statement Amid Stalled Contract Talks
With reports about stalled contract extension talks between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors, the veteran shooter remains as confident as ever. During a live stream while on his boat, Thompson said, "My 13th year in The Association and it's gonna be the best one yet."
These comments were of course made amid the reports about Thompson's contract situation, but were not seemingly directed at the Warriors or anything related to those talks. That said, the always confident Thompson is entering this season with as much confidence as he's ever had, recognizing there is a lot to play for.
Wanting to win a 5th championship alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green, Thompson has that motivating him every day. Now potentially playing for his last big deal in the NBA, Thompson has another reason to be locked in this year.
The reporting surrounding Thompson's lack of a contract extension does not suggest the two sides are hesitant on extending their partnership, but there does seem to be a gap on years and money. It would make sense for the Warriors to line Thompson's extension up with the contracts of Curry and Green, but it would also make sense for Thompson to want a deal that takes him closer to the end of his career.
For now, Thomson and the Warriors remain far apart on a deal, but the veteran guard is confident this will be his best season yet.
