LeBron James' Viral Statement After Lakers vs. Warriors
The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors played an exciting game on Saturday night, with Golden State defeating Los Angeles to regain possession of the 9th seed. There was a lot of chaos down the stretch of this game, with extended reviews and shot clock malfunctions leading to an anticlimactic finish to what was an otherwise fun game.
One of the extended reviews came on a LeBron James three point basket that was ultimately taken away after the officials determined his foot was out of bounds. Reacting to this after the game, James said he has never seen that be called before in that way.
"I've never seen that be called before like that," James said. "In that particular time. That was kind of weird. Yeah, it took some momentum away."
James was referring to the officials being able to go back and review a play from several possessions ago, which is what happened in this instance. In a Pool Report with Khobi Price of the Southern California News Group, Crew Chief David Guthrie was asked about that specific play, and stated the following:
"James’ left foot is out of bounds as he beings to shoot. Yes, it is reviewable at that time. The rule is Rule 13, Section II(f)(3): Whether the shooter committed a boundary line violation, the replay center official will only look at the position of the player’s feet at the moment they touch the floor immediately prior to the release of the shot. This can be applied during other replay triggers as well."
This was the official explanation from the NBA shortly after the game ended.
