NBA Breaks Silence on Controversial Call in Warriors vs. Kings Game

The NBA explained this controversial play involving Steph Curry

The Golden State Warriors fell to the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night by a final score of 134-133. The NBA has released their Last Two Minute Report for this game, and it includes an explanation on what was a very controversial call in the final minute.

Following a missed three by Kings guard Kevin Huerter with 27 seconds remaining, the rebound was batted around and landed in the hands of Steph Curry, who was out of bounds. Possession was awarded to the Kings, but this ruling was very controversial, since Curry was hit in the head by Domantas Sabonis prior to falling out of bounds.

The NBA reviewed this play, and deemed the no-call on Sabonis to be correct, stating, "Sabonis (SAC) follows through after attempting to reach the loose ball and contact occurs with Curry's (GSW) head/face. Contact to an opponent's head/face can be deemed marginal when the result of a natural basketball move, provided the contact is not disproportionate or uncontrolled."

Kings guard Keegan Murray also made contact to the head/face area of Andrew Wiggins on this play, which the NBA also deemed marginal, writing, "Murray (SAC) raises both arms up to pursue the rebound and he makes clean contact with the ball prior to marginal contact occurring with Wiggins' (GSW) face. Contact to an opponent's head/face can be deemed marginal when the result of a natural basketball move, provided the contact is not disproportionate or uncontrolled."

This was a controversial play, but the NBA says it was correctly ruled.
