NBA Breaks Silence on Controversial Call in Warriors vs. Suns
The Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns played a thriller on Saturday night, with Steph Curry hitting the game-winning three with 0.7 seconds remaining. While they didn't have much time, Phoenix still had an opportunity to answer Curry's three, but did not get a shot off on their final possession:
Playing great defense to deny Kevin Durant a shot on this final possession, Draymond Green helped seal the victory for Golden State. This final play has been somewhat controversial online, with some fans believing Green fouled Durant, but the NBA has released an explanation as to why this was a correct no-call.
In their Last Two Minute Report for this game, the NBA wrote on this play, "Green (GSW) maintains verticality and cleanly dislodges the ball from Durant (PHX) with his right hand."
This was not the only controversial play in the final second, as the Warriors were whistled for a foul on the previous inbound pass, with Andrew Wiggins fouling Devin Booker with 0.6 seconds remaining.
The NBA also released an explanation on this call, stating, "Wiggins (GSW) wraps Booker (PHX) and affects his ability to get to the inbound pass. After communicating with the Replay Center, it was determined the foul occurred prior to the expiration of the game clock, and the clock was reset to 0.6."
Despite some last-second chaos, the Warriors held on to defeat Phoenix 113-112.
