Spurs Make Shocking Victor Wembanyama Mistake in Warriors Game
Victor Wembanyama has a tough name to spell, it's not an everyday name fans see. Regardless, what the Spurs did this week during the Warriors game was unacceptable - spelling Wembanyama's name wrong on his own jersey.
When Wembanyama started the game against the Warriors, his name was spelled as "Wembanyana." As the game progressed, he ended up switching to another jersey. While it may have seemed like a small mistake, the rookie wasn't happy with what happened.
"It’s a real shame," Wembanyama told the media after the game. "I don't know if somebody got fired, but the Spurs did their job by checking my name and noticing it. But, I don’t know, it’s a real shame."
In all honesty, Wembanyama doesn't even have the hardest last name in the NBA. There are far more difficult names, including the two-time MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
It remains to be seen if someone was fired for the mistake on Wembanyama's jersey. In all likelihood, there was probably a punishment for spelling the name of a rookie phenom wrong. Especially a player that the league is backing as hard as Victor Wembanyama. If there's one thing Wembanyama would sacrifice his name spelling for though, it would have been a win against the Golden State Warriors on Friday night.
The Golden State Warriors ultimately handed the San Antonio Spurs their 10th straight loss in a row on Friday night, a moment of insult added to injury for the young Wembanyama.
