Long before Steve Kerr was coach of the Golden State Warriors, he was a fan of Steph Curry. In fact, Curry's presence on the Warriors was a big reason why Kerr became the coach of the franchise.

In an interview with Coach Nick of BBALLBREAKDOWN, the Warriors head coach revealed his reason for taking the Warriors coaching job and just how far back his admiration for Curry goes.

"I remember Steve [Nash] told me, he said, 'yeah, Curry is my favorite player in the draft. I'd love to play with him,'" Kerr said. "But it wasn't meant to be, it's something I think about very often. I'm glad it wasn't meant to be, because I never would have coached him here in Golden State.

After Steve Kerr lost his chance to draft Steph Curry to the Phoenix Suns, he then had the opportunity to coach him on the Golden State Warriors - one of the key reasons why Kerr took the position as head coach.

"First of all, Steph was an All-Star before I got here," Kerr said. "He was one of the main reasons why I wanted this job. He was such a brilliant player and a brilliant human being, I knew if I could connect with him that I'd have a much greater chance of success. All we tried to do, when I get here my first year my staff just wanted a little more movement. Steph was so good off the ball in college and he was getting really good on the ball in his first few years in the NBA, so that combination is so rare."

The dominoes had to fall the way they did for the Golden State Warriors, but it could have been a much story. What if Steve Kerr drafted Steph Curry to the Phoenix Suns? What if the Warriors beat the Clippers in the first round in 2013? Fortunately, these what-ifs won't be better than the actual reality that the Warriors live in.
