Washington Wizards 32 Point Third Quarter Not Enough To Slow Down New York Knicks
The Wizards came out with all of the energy to start the second half after a dismal first half. The team was aggressive and efficient on both sides of the ball and it initially showed up on the scoreboard. The Wizards were able to close the score gap to within five mid-way through the third quarter to make the score 74-69. At that point in the game, Kyle Kuzma had increased his points to 19 and Deni Avdija was in on the offensive action with 18 points with four minutes left in the third quarter.
The Wizards scored 32 points in the third quarter, but the offensive surge would come to a close soon enough. The Knicks quickly re-grouped and within two minutes had increased their lead to 14. By the end of the third quarter, the Knicks were leading the Wizards 91-75. The Knicks would keep the lead up and close the game out 121-105.
Looking at the game charts, the Wizards were able to match the Knicks energy in the paint with both teams having 52 points each. Rebounding was in the Wizards favor in the second half and the field goal shooting percentage was about the same for both teams. The Wizards would end up with 20 turnovers total, limiting to six in the second half. It was the turnovers, however, that would be an Achilles heel for the Wizards.
It still wasn’t enough to get caught up with a Knicks team that is clearly set to making it deep into the postseason.
Next up for the Wizards are the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, January 8 at 7:00pm EST at Capital One Arena.
