Bargain Free Agent The Wizards Should Consider
Many people say that this is the most wonderful time of the year. No, I’m not talking about the fact that we are entering into the holiday season. I am referring to the fact that the NBA Season is right around the corner. Preseason will be rolling off before we know it. But before we get to the NBA Preseason, we have to start training camp first.
The Washington Wizards will begin their NBA Training Camp on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023. After all of the transactions that were made during the offseason, we now have a completely different team this upcoming season in Washington. The Wizards are one of the youngest teams in the league. They can use a nice veteran leader on this team.
Sure, Taj Gibson is still around. He is a huge voice in the locker room. However, the Wizards need a veteran presence at the guard position. One bargain free agent that would be a great addition to the Wizards is Michael Carter-Williams.
MCW is a guy who has played for a number of different teams throughout his career. It all started in the city of brotherly love, the Philadelphia 76ers. There, he shocked the world as he won rookie of the year. In his very first game, he tallied a historic stat line vs. the Miami Heat where he scored 22 points, 12 assist, nine steals, and seven rebounds. After that first season in Philly, he dealt with a few injuries and began his journey around the league where he spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Hornets, Houston Rockets, and the Orlando Magic.
Michael Carter-Williams would provide a veteran presence and leadership for the guards on this team as well as the entire roster honestly. He’s been around the block and knows how hard it is to be successful in this league. He understands what it’s like being a rookie and young player in the NBA. He knows what it takes to be successful yet he understands the mental toll it takes on one’s body to experience pressure being a top pick and dealing with injuries. MCW would fit in very nicely with this team and the Washington Wizards should at least look into extending to him an invitation to training camp.
