Former Washington Wizards Forward Kelly Oubre Jr. Struck By Car

Former Washington Wizards forward Kelly Oubre Jr. struck by car as a pedestrian in Philadelphia.

Former Washington Wizards forward Kelly Oubre Jr. was hit by a vehicle while walking in City Center, Philadelphia tonight according to ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

The former Wizards player, now a Philadelphia 76ers forward, Oubre was walking near his home on Saturday night and is receiving treatment at a local hospital, ESPN has been informed by a team spokesman.

Oubre is reported to be in stable condition but is expected to miss significant time due to injury.

According to ESPN, 76ers officials including President of Operations Daryl Morey has joined Oubre at the hospital.

Local authorities are still investigating the incident.

This is horrible news no one wanted to get tonight and we are all hoping for a quick recovery for the forward.

Oubre spent almost four years in a Wizards uniform and was finding his footing with his new team in Philadelphia.

He was off to a quick start this year and contributing 16.2 points per game and shooting close to 38 percent from three.

The 76ers are in first place in the Eastern Conference currently and Oubre has been a large part of that.

UPDATE at 11:20 PM EST: A Philadelphia 76ers spokesman has told ESPN that Oubre has been released from the hospital and will work closely with team medical staff on treatment.

UPDATE on November 12th at 10:44 AM EST: Senior Lead NBA Insider for The Athletic Shams Charania reported that Oubre has sustained broken ribs and an assortment of bruises and cuts to his body but avoided serious injury. He will miss a significant amount of time as previously reported. 

UPDATE at 1:45 PM EST: NBA Insider for The Athletic Shams Charania has provided an update from the Philadelphia Police Department. Oubre was struck in the upper chest by a silver vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The car then fled the scene making this a hit-and-run. He also has injuries to his hip and right leg.
